Courageous Conversations on Race Relations
June 4, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
After a year-long conversation between community members, churches and citizens who want to see a meaningful, lasting change happen within our community, the second of several planned meetings has been scheduled for June 4th at 6:00pm.
You are invited to join us at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, located at 425 Cleveland Ave SW in Canton, Ohio at 6:00pm.
There will be a dinner from 6:00-7:00 pm and the conversations will take place from 7:00 -8:15pm, followed by dessert.
Pastor Eric Howard from Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Deb Shamlin from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Tom Phillips from StarkFresh will co-mediate the conversation.
We will be continuing where our last conversation left off, and diving more into Martin Luther King Jr’s Letter from the Birmingham Jail https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XPoWrirBQrPxgFP0c2x9ql0rFsPzHfDH/view?usp=sharing
and see how the white moderates outlined in his letter gave birth to “white fragility.” We will be going over microaggressions and and examining how our own circles of trust actually perpetuate the issues.
In case you haven’t had a chance to read prior handouts, here are the links below.
