Summertime in the Warehouse District means it’s a perfect time for a cleanup workday in and around StarkFresh’s Food Justice Campus! That means not only is it time lend a hand with physical organization and general building a grounds cleanup, but we’ll tackle the growing “to-do” lists we’ve been adding to all summer long. We’re partnering with Deli Ohio to cleanup some of the neighboring properties and we’ll have things that can be done for all skill levels, from sweeping and painting to tearing down walls and other construction-type work. Many hands make light work, come for a couple of hours or stay for the whole day!
Some of the more skilled tasks include:
Changing lamps and installing LED light fixtures in our office area
Replacing ceiling tiles throughout Campus
Patch Rust areas on vehicle wheel well
Move slop sink wall
Patching gaps/holes in building soffits
Remove a divider wall in Community Room
Put castor wheels on oven and other appliances/tables
Replace hand truck wheels
Remove closet wall in Grocery to allow for additional freezers to be installed
The tasks that don’t involve any heavy skills, but equally as important are:
Painting outside shipping/storage containers
Painting inside building murals
Painting outside of van
Painting interior walls
Shampooing carpets and chairs
Scanning documents into computer
Deep clean kitchen equipment/appliances
Spot painting/touch-up of outside door jams, windows, etc
Cleaning out trash cans
Dusting and cleaning offices
Spot painting in Grocery Store and Community Room
Painting outside window frames on second floor
Clean and Put together racking
Sweep, shovel and remove sand build-up on curbside from Winter
We can never have enough 6-8’ step ladders for volunteers to use, as we only have a few. For individuals who can help with some construction/electrical tasks, if they bring their own hand tools/battery drills that would be helpful too.
