Retail Grocery Program Pricing

When we started providing retail food solutions in 2014, there weren’t many others tackling this problem

We were forced to innovate, glean information from others. This consisted of learning from for-profit models, cooperatives and even a handful of nonprofits (where we mainly learned what not to do). We learned enough to open a Mobile Market and then again in 2017 when we started looking to open a brick-and-mortar location, but this wasn’t easy to pull off.

In the neighborhoods of highest need, there simply aren’t Grocery Stores.

Our stores are small, much smaller than a traditional supermarket and even smaller than what the grocery industry considers a small-format store (Think of Aldi or Sav-a-lot).

There are many reasons for this but mainly because buildings of this size are usually not intertwined in the neighborhoods where people live. These “big-box” stores weren’t the corner grocery stores of decades past, yet in many cases the buildings that once held such stores still remain. For generations these neighborhood grocery stores met the immediate needs of the neighborhoods and communities in which they were located.

When the grocery industry transformed to be one of low-cost goods and relying on heavy foot traffic to turn a profit, these smaller stores no longer became viable, decimating the residents that relied on them.

We are constantly asked, How do we open a store like this in our community?

We do not suggest enduring the hardship of figuring this out on your own, like we had to do.

Each step (and all the missteps too!) we’ve taken to open our first brick-and-mortar location are meticulously outlined so we could help others. All of the checklists, standard operating procedures, guiding videos, forms, flyers that were created to successfully run these stores were utilized to open our second location 3 years later.

We have guidance levels for every budget, whether you’re looking for some basic general information to get you started or are looking for hands-on, onsite guidance by our team of grocery development and management staff, there are customizable options for every need.
